Part 3/7:
While at his bachelor party, the narrator received a call from an unfamiliar number. A woman on the other end claimed her husband had purchased the rental car from his employee, paying a whopping $155,000 in cash, bartering with a BMW 750 as part of the deal. The car owner, puzzled and incredulous, felt that something was fundamentally wrong with this claim. "Possession is nine-tenths of the law," she declared, referencing a legal principle, but the owner remained firm in asserting his rights as the true possessor of the vehicles.
This conversation marked the beginning of a prolonged nightmare, with the cars hidden and their renter apparently elusive. The cops were involved but could do little more than indicate that the case was a civil dispute rather than a criminal one.
