Part 7/10:
In discussing the fourth reason — the quest for unique elements of Earth, such as its biodiversity or cultural outputs — Arthur points out the impracticality of harvesting living beings for sustenance or material gain. Instead of invading, an advanced civilization should simply request genetic samples or cultural artifacts, as most could be replicated using contemporary technology.
The Example of 'Stupid' Civilizations
Arthur also critiques certain science fiction narratives where entire civilizations self-destruct due to their stupidity. For instance, he recalls the Krell from Forbidden Planet, who, despite having the technology to amplify intelligence, ultimately perished due to their inability to understand the consequences of their own inventions.
