Part 7/9:

Amin's often erratic behavior and increasingly bizarre political moves, including an unsought alliance with Scotland’s own separatist groups, painted the picture of a dictator out of touch with reality. Internationally, his regime fluctuated between attempts at establishing alliances, like that with Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, and provoking conflicts that antagonized neighboring countries, notably with Tanzania.

In 1978, Uganda's ill-fated invasion of Tanzania marked the beginning of the end for Amin. A subsequent counter-offensive by Tanzanian forces, bolstered by Ugandan exiles, ultimately culminated in Amin's ousting in 1979. He fled to Libya and later found refuge in Saudi Arabia, where he lived until his death in 2003.
