For Amin Dada, insomnia was a constant companion, fueled by nightmares of assassination, primarily from his own soldiers. His rise to power came at the expense of his predecessor, Milton Obote, whom he overthrew via a coup d'état in January 1971. However, the very same forces that had initially elevated him were now subjects of his deepest fears. To maintain his grip on power, Amin enacted a reign of terror that drove fear into the hearts of his subjects, leading to a climate where even whispers of dissent could result in severe and horrific consequences.
