The presence of Asians in Uganda can be traced back to the early 19th century when British colonial policies encouraged Indian merchants to migrate to East Africa. These Indians largely contributed to the economic framework of the region, and by the time Uganda gained independence in 1962, they occupied significant commercial and professional roles. However, despite their economic contributions, they struggled to gain political power and faced growing resentment from the African populace, exacerbated by years of perceived economic competition.
