Part 6/10:
Since 2012, the Central African Republic (CAR) has been embroiled in a civil war that began when a coalition of predominantly Muslim rebel groups known as Seleka launched an offensive against President François Bozizé, whose corrupt regime faced widespread dissatisfaction. After Bozizé was ousted, Seleka’s atrocities led to the formation of anti-Balaka militias, primarily made up of Christian and animist factions.
The conflict has escalated over the years, with horrific acts of violence, mass killings, and the use of child soldiers becoming common occurrences. One disturbing aspect of this conflict has been the involvement of foreign mercenaries, particularly from the Wagner Group, who are linked to numerous atrocities, including the massacre of civilians and widespread sexual violence.
