By 1980, Britain’s colonial governance ended, and Robert Mugabe was sworn in as Prime Minister. Initial years were marked by hope; under Mugabe's leadership, Zimbabwe's education system flourished and healthcare improved. However, the darkness soon encroached. Political violence, particularly against rival factions, became rampant as Mugabe suppressed opposition. Corruption seeped into leadership, and unattainable promises of economic prosperity were undermined by authoritarian rule and oppressive policies.
