Part 3/7:
Under Russian law, beer is not classified as an alcoholic beverage, a classification that significantly contributes to its ubiquitous availability. Yet, despite its popularity, beer is often more expensive than vodka, which poses a dilemma for many Russians. The cost of a bottle of vodka is comparably low—often just a couple of dollars—making it an easier choice for individuals looking for an escape.
However, while beer flows freely and is embraced by new generations, the harsh reality of alcoholism looms large. Despite the variety of alcoholic options available, the resources for those seeking help remain tragically sparse. Alcoholics Anonymous has only a minimal presence, and many turn to religious institutions for support.
