Today, while the situation for many Roma has improved, significant challenges remain. Discrimination, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of societal integration are prevalent issues. Even in cities with strong economic development, such as Cluj in Romania, marginalized communities exist in appalling conditions, often ignored by authorities.
However, some Roma continue to distrust institutional efforts due to centuries of oppression, resulting in a complicated relationship with initiatives seeking to normalize their social standing.
