The Figures: Penalties and First Downs
Despite Mahomes' perspective, some statistics paint a different picture. Over the last three years, the Chiefs have faced 147 more penalty yards than their opponents, which includes both regular season and postseason games. Additionally, they have been awarded 20 more first downs due to penalties on key third- or fourth-down plays since 2018. Such statistics raise eyebrows regarding the officiating under high-pressure situations, particularly in playoff games.
