The primary feature currently being monitored is the polar jet stream, characterized by fast-moving winds located thousands of feet above the Earth. This jet is ushering in frigid air to the Northeast but will experience a moderated penetration into the Southeast due to a closed upper-level low drawing in warmer air masses from the Gulf of Mexico, the Pacific, and Mexico. This intersection of warm and cold air is set to trigger severe weather in states like Texas and Louisiana as we transition into the week.
