In the spring of 2024, Michelle and Kenneth Mack exemplified the most notorious instance of organized retail crime in U.S. history. Over the course of a decade, they orchestrated a shoplifting operation that amassed over $8 million in stolen goods from various retailers. This criminal enterprise enabled them to enjoy a lavish lifestyle, including a stunning $2.7 million mansion in suburban San Diego.
The couple's operation was unique in that they did not commit the thefts themselves. Instead, they recruited young women, or "boosters," who would physically steal the merchandise. The Macks targeted makeup retailers such as Ulta Beauty and Sephora, taking advantage of the small, high-value items that were easy to resell.
