DeSantis has encountered resistance from certain legislators, often referred to as "rhinos" (Republicans In Name Only), who have been reluctant to support his proposed measures aimed at addressing illegal immigration. During a special legislative session called by DeSantis, aimed at equipping the state to effectively support Trump's policies, many lawmakers deemed the issue non-emergency and chose not to participate. In response to this, some lawmakers attempted to repurpose DeSantis's proposals, rebranding them under the so-called "Trump Act," yet without adequate enforcement measures.
