In 1978, Brown recounted an extraordinary event that would haunt him for years. While living between Circle, Alaska, and Eagle, he and his friends welcomed two strangers who arrived on a homemade log raft, having paddled down from Canada. One of these men introduced himself as John the Baptist. The encounter turned eerie and unsettling as “John the Baptist” overstayed his welcome, resorting to taking supplies and resources from Brown and his friends, necessitating their difficult insistence that he leave.
