Palenque, situated in the Mexican state of Chiapas, is home to around 132,000 residents and is best known for its proximity to the ancient Mayan ruins, which date back over 2,200 years. These ruins are among the largest tourist attractions in the area, drawing roughly a million visitors annually. Interestingly, I found my visit to Palenque far more enjoyable than my experience at Chichén Itza, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Palenque offered peace, lower entry fees, and a greater variety of historical sights.
