Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested later that same day for the murder of Dallas Police Patrolman J.D. Tippit. Within 48 hours of the assassination, Oswald was dead—shot by nightclub owner Jack Ruby while being transferred to a different jail. Ruby's motives remain a topic of speculation, but his actions effectively silenced Oswald.
