For young and aspiring CPAs, the outlook is surprisingly optimistic. The current shortage of new CPAs will result in less competition for positions as aging accountants retire. Those who are already in the field or entering it will find numerous opportunities for upward mobility in various roles, from management to partnership.
Moreover, while automation and artificial intelligence are changing the workplace, the demand for CPAs is unlikely to diminish significantly in the near future. The reality is that although some tasks may become automated, the need for skilled CPAs to handle complex financial matters will remain strong.
