Mobula rays are distinctly different from other similar species such as stingrays. While both belong to the subclass of cartilaginous fishes, mobula rays feature mouths situated at the front and specialized fin-like appendages known as cephalic lobes, which help funnel water and plankton into their mouths. They are filter feeders, sifting through enormous volumes of water while swimming, leading to their growth into the colossal creatures we see today.
