Another story of escape is that of Oongs, who made an audacious departure through the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). On a seemingly uneventful day in 2017, Oongs, in a high-speed chase with armed North Korean soldiers, displayed incredible tenacity and resolve. Despite being shot multiple times during his flight, he managed to cross the demarcation line into South Korea, where he was rescued. Survival through the DMZ is incredibly rare, with many defectors meeting their end on such dangerous grounds.
