Despite these fears, there’s a logical argument that could mitigate this pressure. The Mets boast a diverse lineup capable of producing runs, which should ideally distribute the offensive burden. The notion that teams might walk Soto to engage Alonso may not hold up if other formidable hitters, like Mark Vientos and Brandon Nimmo, follow. The belief here is that a well-constructed lineup must alleviate some of the stress from Alonso, allowing him to capitalize on the opportunities presented by having Soto on base.
