Hu Mahi: Pioneering Pitcher and his Time in Baseball During WWII
Hu Mahi emerged as a promising talent for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1936. At just 22 years old, he excelled in the New York Penn League, racking up an impressive 325 innings pitched for the Hazelton Mountaineers which earned him MVP honors from The Sporting News. After an encouraging minor league career, Mahi debuted in Major League Baseball but struggled initially, accumulating a less than stellar 4.83 ERA during his first five seasons with the Phillies—a team plagued by both offensive and defensive shortcomings, leading to a high number of losses for Mahi.
