Regrettably, as of now, the pace of advancement in space-based solar technology is hindered more by economic factors rather than technological limitations. While countries such as the U.K. and Japan are making strides toward launching solar power satellites, the United States has also entered the space arena with a 2020 experiment involving a solar panel aboard a classified military drone orbiting our planet.
Successfully transmitting energy wirelessly from space to homes may still be a distant dream, but the vision of a future where solar energy powers our lives— whether through the innovation of laser or microwave technology—could soon evolve from science fiction into reality.
