In 1999, US Web merged with another company and rebranded itself as MarchFirst, Inc. However, this boom did not last. By 2001, the dot-com bubble burst, leading to a sharp decline in demand, which resulted in the company's bankruptcy. Fermage had already detached himself from the company by stepping down as CEO in 1998, having sold off many of his shares and secured a personal fortune worth tens of millions of dollars.
