Many teachings attributed to Jesus have been misunderstood or misinterpreted in the centuries since they were recorded. For instance:
John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life," has often been seen as Jesus being the sole path to salvation. Esoterically, it suggests that the path to God lies in awakening the Christ consciousness within oneself.
Matthew 25:46, concerning eternal punishment and life, is frequently interpreted literally as a heaven and hell dichotomy. Instead, this can refer to the spiritual suffering caused by ignorance and the bliss of realization through union with God.
