Intuition tells us that the cat must either be alive or dead. However, according to the principles of quantum physics which Schrödinger was critiquing, the cat’s state is not definitive until the box is opened. In that moment before observation, the cat exists in a state of superposition, being simultaneously both alive and dead in equal measure. It is only upon opening the box that a single, observable outcome is realized, turning the cat into a mere probability blur, half alive and half dead.
