Over two billion years ago, long before multicellular life emerged, a significant cosmic event altered the landscape of what is now Western Australia. A colossal asteroid, approximately 7 kilometers in diameter, raced through space at an astonishing speed of 17 kilometers per second before colliding with Earth's surface. This impact, centered on the Yarab Buba crater, unleashed energy equivalent to millions of nuclear bombs detonating simultaneously. While Earth has been continuously molded by geological processes, remnants of this catastrophic collision still lie buried beneath the Merchorison Province of the Yagan Craton.
