Ultimately, whether or not audiences will turn out for this latest offering is still unknown. However, the overwhelming negativity surrounding the trailer and the film itself serves as an important signal to Disney: the nostalgia that once buoyed it may not be enough in a landscape where audiences seek substance, respect for tradition, and genuine creativity over a mere rehash of old themes.
