The Biological Nature of Love
Furthermore, Schopenhauer provocatively claims that love is merely a biological mechanism designed for procreation. Romantic love, often idealized in literature and art, serves as a powerful illusion. This illusion disguises for us the blind, impersonal drive of nature compelling us to reproduce. The ideal of transcendent love becomes, to Schopenhauer, nothing more than an instinct to ensure survival.
