Schopenhauer criticizes society as a construct crafted for mediocrity, designed to keep individuals preoccupied and distracted from the uncomfortable truth of their condition. Society erects collective illusions, establishing norms that encourage conformity and arm people with comforting fictions. As a result, those who challenge these conventions often find themselves marginalized.
