A Bidding War for Ownership
As the Lightning made their entrance, two main contenders emerged in the bidding for ownership: Group A, comprised of Jim Rutherford and Peter Karmanos, presented a traditional choice due to their financial credibility. Group B, however, represented the Esposito Brothers, who had a more controversial approach; they lacked sufficient backing but were determined to secure the franchise at any cost.
