In 1958, Muku Ando introduced the first version of instant ramen, branded as Chicken Ramen. At the time, it was considered a luxury item; it cost about 35 yen, which was significantly higher than a bowl of fresh ramen. Despite initial slow sales, clever marketing and a focus on the convenience of the product soon catapulted Nissin, Ando's company, to success. Within years, Nissin's sales exploded, and instant ramen became a beloved food throughout Japan.
