Part 2/9:
Sunset Sound, a celebrated recording studio in Los Angeles, has been home to a myriad of music legends, including the likes of Leon Russell. Paich reminisced about learning under David Anderley while recording for Rita Coolidge during Toto's early years. It was during these experiences, surrounded by talented musicians, that he cultured his unique style—a sound that would later help define Toto's identity.
The band has a distinctive blend of rock, pop, and progressive music, characterized by lush harmonies, intricate arrangements, and impeccable musicianship. Paich and Lukather discussed their experience of floating between studios, working with various artists, and how that environment shaped their craft and ultimately forged their band's unmistakable sound.
