A Turbulent 20th Century
Italy joined the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria, later committing to the Allied Powers in World War I after signing the Treaty of London in 1915. Despite territorial gains from the war, Italy felt cheated, facing a "mutilated victory" due to unfulfilled promises of land.
