Today, the notion of a unified Italian identity faces scrutiny, as regional differences in customs and dialects remain vibrant. While efforts have been made to standardize the Italian language, regional dialects continue to flourish, with significant variation found even among neighboring communities. The influence of Christianity, predominantly in its Catholic form, continues to shape Italian society, but secularism and other religions also coexist in modern Italy.
Additionally, influences from neighboring cultures, particularly those from the Western Balkans and Iberia, have further enriched the Italian cultural landscape, resulting in a complex tapestry of identities.
