As revolutionary fervor continued, Giuseppe Garibaldi mobilized a volunteer army to liberate the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, successfully taking Sicily and Naples in 1860. His rapid conquests forced a reluctant partnership with the Piedmontese monarchy, culminating in Garibaldi’s handover of territories to King Victor Emmanuel II. By 1861, the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed, though incomplete, as Venice and Rome remained outside its reach.
