Unfortunately, the drastic reduction in budget impacted production quality, with the series featuring recycled footage, lower-grade costumes, and diminished sets. Critics lamented the loss of the sharp storytelling and thematic depth that characterized the miniseries, describing the series as a mere imitation, likening it to "Dynasty with lizard makeup."
By March 1985, just 19 episodes in, the series was canceled—abruptly ending on a massive cliffhanger without resolution. What was once a cultural phenomenon had become an unfinished casualty of poor decision-making.
