Commercially, The Ultimate Sin succeeded, but critically, Darby cited its production as a major flaw. Producers and band members agreed that while the songwriting was solid, the sound lacked the finesse needed to make the album truly exceptional. Osbourne himself called the production “poppy” and less imaginative compared to his previous efforts. In fact, he mentioned The Ultimate Sin as his least favorite album, expressing a desire to revisit and remix it.
Many involved, including Lee and producer Ron Nevison, echoed these sentiments. They believed that the album's potential was stifled by its production choices and that a remixed version could breathe new life into the songs.
