Among Jung's many contributions, the concept of the "Shadow" is particularly relevant to understanding self-sabotage. The Shadow consists of aspects of ourselves that we have disowned, repressed, or failed to develop. Jung famously noted, "Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life, and you will call it fate." This insight lays ground for understanding how our unconscious influences our actions, often in ways opposing our conscious desires.
