Part 4/8:
A theory presented by historian Eric Desen Hall in his book Wise Guys and the White House offers a different perspective. He suggests that the Chicago Outfit could have had a direct hand in Siegel's assassination. Desen Hall posits that Siegel's attempts to charge the Chicago Outfit for using their own wire service created tension. Disrespecting powerful mob families was a dangerous game, and in Siegel's case, it may have pushed the Chicago Outfit to strike first. The complexity of mob dynamics during this time indicates that multiple factions had motivations to eliminate Siegel, leading to a situation where "everybody" had a vested interest in his death.
