Under Choibalsan's regime, the purges escalated violently, leading to mass arrests, executions, and widespread terror. Genden himself fell victim to these purges when he was “invited” to the Soviet Union under the pretext of receiving medical care, only to be arrested and accused of conspiring against the government.
On November 26, 1937, Genden was executed in Moscow, wrongfully charged with treason and espionage, reflecting the brutality of a state descending into paranoia and repression.
