Alonzo Gabriel Capone, known to history as Al Capone, was born on January 17, 1899, in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Gabriel Capone, was a barber who immigrated from Angri, a small village near Naples, Italy, while his mother, Teresa Rola, was a seamstress. The Capone family emigrated to the United States in 1893 amidst a wave of Italian immigration to escape poverty and limited opportunities in their homeland.
