Upon his release in 1939, Capone had already lost much of his former power and influence. While he had been a key player in the violent underbelly of Chicago, his health issues and the ending of Prohibition marked the shift in organized crime dynamics. Capone spent the twilight of his life in relative obscurity, afflicted by the consequences of his earlier lifestyle.
