Acquired in 2001 by Deutsche Telekom for $35 billion, T-Mobile entered the American market hoping to capitalize on its parent company's success in Europe. However, the acquisition did not translate into success. The company fell behind its rivals in technological advancements, primarily due to limitations in infrastructure that confined them to offering only 3G services when competitors were rolling out 4G LTE networks. This technological gap left T-Mobile unable to support Apple’s iPhones, which were exploding in popularity due to their exclusive partnership with AT&T until 2011.
