Using his vast wealth—reportedly enhanced by bribes amounting to millions—he turned the prison into an extension of his empire. Guzmán enjoyed luxuries such as alcohol, lobster, and visits from not just one, but multiple romantic partners. His control over the prison was so extensive that he continued moving drugs even while incarcerated, generating an estimated $20 million a month, thereby expanding his influence instead of diminishing it.
