Throughout the season, women's college basketball has struggled for attention, appearing as an afterthought compared to other sports. With regular-season games seeing lower viewership than anticipated, the narrative of an emerging women’s basketball powerhouse seems misaligned with audience interest. Even though some games garnered decent viewership, the overall response is not reflective of the stature the media had painted for this season.
Interestingly, while the tournament may experience higher overall numbers, it is essential to consider context. It may well become the second most-watched women’s tournament in NCAA history, but expectations must be rationalized against the historical record and regular season performance.
