While LLMs are confirmed to possess certain models of the world that allow them to generalize to some extent, opinions remain divided over whether simply scaling up models will inevitably lead to human-level understanding. Although the current trajectory of AI improvements has seen positive advances, high costs and diminishing returns tempt skepticism regarding the scalability of neural network performance.
Some posit that language modeling, even at its current scale, may indeed lead to higher-level cognitive functions if combined with superior learning algorithms. Improved architectures or synergies with complementary tools may enhance the potential for AI systems to achieve intelligence akin to that of humans.
