Georgia's Senate recently approved Senate Bill 244, which sets forth a process allowing criminal defendants to seek financial compensation from county prosecuting attorneys. The bill provides a framework for individuals to recoup their legal costs in instances where the prosecuting attorney involved in their case is found guilty of personal or professional misconduct.

Initially inspired by the high-profile allegations surrounding Trump’s election interference case in Georgia, Senate Bill 244 also revives the Wrongful Conviction Compensation Act, which had stalled previously. This act was designed to provide reparations to those unjustly incarcerated.
