The roots of electric vehicles can be traced back to 1828, when Ányos Jedlik created the first model of an electric car. However, many historical accounts attribute the inception of electric vehicles to American inventor Thomas Davenport, who constructed a small electric locomotive powered by electromagnets in 1834 or 1835. During the following decade, several inventors explored electric vehicle designs, culminating in a pivotal moment around 1900 when electric cars constituted approximately one-third of all cars manufactured in the United States.
