A Sweeping State Department Overhaul
In another significant development, Secretary of State Marco Rubio has proposed an ambitious restructuring of the US State Department, aiming to streamline operations and align them with President Trump's "America First" agenda. Announced recently, the plan includes cutting over 700 positions and closing more than 130 domestic offices.
Rubio described the department as “bloated” and inadequate in effectively carrying out its diplomatic functions. The planned cuts, which amount to a reduction of about 17% of its offices, reflect a broader agenda to eliminate redundancies and reassess divisions that no longer align with current foreign policy goals.
