The Dutch Colonial Revival style came into vogue as part of America’s nostalgic return to its colonial past. Recognizable by its gambrel roof and wide eaves, these homes drew inspiration from the original structures built by Dutch settlers in the 17th and 18th centuries. Typically constructed with wood siding, the design remained popular through the 1930s, particularly in the Northeastern U.S. One infamous example is the Amityville Horror house, which epitomizes the architectural style's history.
